A Typical Day at Luther Memorial Preschool

children gather around a gas-filled balloon in a science experiment with yeastTeachers plan a program that is developmentally appropriate, with activities designed to encourage social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and physical development. They use themes to prepare their classroom environment for a day of play and learning. Some of our favorite themes include Bugs, Friends, Winter in Wisconsin and of course Dinasaurs.

Both classrooms have daily schedules, customized to meet the needs and development levels of the children enrolled. A typical day in both classrooms will offer a balance of teacher-directed and child-directed activities, as well as indoor and outdoor options.

“Thank you, thank you, and thank you! Your support and care for our children and insights into their development has been an invaluable asset and immense comfort.”—Theresa H.

Outside and Large Motor Play:

Children play on the playground almost daily – weather permitting. Children may choose to explore the play structure, play in the sand boxes, or simply climb, run and play.

Music and Movement:

Music and movement enrichment offers children a time to play while listening and moving to a wide variety of music pieces.  Children move, perform, act, sing, listen and follow directions given by a teacher who holds a music and art degree.

Free Choice Time:

Free Choice Time allows each child to choose an activity of interest. Daily options include easel painting, wooden block building, library/quiet corner, table top activities, board games, instruments, small manipulative activities, sensory activities, science, writing table, dramatic play and large motor play.

Snack Time:

Snacks are provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Families take turns providing healthy snacks for all the children in the class. The preschool adheres to a peanut- and nut-free policy. Snack time offers a nice opportunity to socialize and learn important self-help routines.

Group Time:

This experience includes two daily circle times which typically include calendar, story time, sharing, finger puppets, felt board and songs. Group activities offer children an opportunity to share, take turns, learn social skills, listen and work cooperatively.

“I invite all parents who adore and want the best for their kids to look at Luther Memorial preschool. LM Preschool consistently worked to prepare my girls academically for Kindergarten, and to provide a safe and nourishing environment in which they experience learning and growth through guided fun and play. In brief, I thank God for Luther Memorial Preschool. I am able to focus on my work while they are in school because I know my kids are in highly competent and loving hands. LM Preschool is the best in preschool education I have seen. I highly recommend it.”—Lupe K.

Chapel Time:

Twice per week, Luther Memorial Church pastors take turns leading chapel. Children learn that they each are blessed with many gifts and loved by God. They learn the basic tenants of Lutheran Christianity. However, children need not be from a Christian home in order to benefit from Chapel time.  Religion is also woven into the daily curriculum.
