Youth
Sunday School
Sunday School for children 3 years-6th Grade meets in the Sunday School wing from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., between Sunday services. Sunday School begins with Gathering Song before going to class time. Each age group has a different focus for the year. Please see the Sunday School Handbook for more information. The 2009-2010 Sunday School year ends on Sunday May 23. The 2010-2011 Sunday School year will begin on Homecoming Sunday, September 12.
Youth Forum
Running on the same schedule as Sunday School, a youth forum is held on Sunday mornings in the youth room and is led by Lou Reynaldo and Dave Zenter. Various themes are discussed.
Youth Music
Luther Memorial has three choirs for young people. The Training Choir for those Kindergrarten to second grade is directed by Anne McDermott and practices Sundays 4:15-5 PM. The Children's Choir for those in third through sixth grades is directed by Bruce Bengtson and practices on Sundays from 4:15-5 PM and sings for worship on the first Sunday of the month during the school year. The Youth Choir, for those in 7th through 12th grade is also directed by Bruce Bengtson, practices Sundays, 5-6 PM and sings for worship at the 10:30 service on the Second Sunday of the month, during the school year.
Confirmation
Students in grades 7-9 attend confirmation classes on Sunday evenings, 5:45-7:45, from October to April. We gather for dinner and Evening Prayer, led by the confirmands, before class time. Seventh graders spend the year on an overview of the bible. Eight and ninth graders spend two years on Luther's Small Catechism. Confirmation instruction is taught by both pastors as well as Carol Landahl and Dave Zentner. The Rite of Confirmation - Affirmation of Baptism will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010. The 2010-2011 school year starts with a Confirmation retreat at Bethel Horizons camp near Dodgville, Wisconsin on October 1-2, 2010.
Youth Group
Youth in grades 7-12 meet on most Sunday evenings from 6-8 PM October to May. Led by Lee and Mary Powell, Dan Ruge and the pastors, the youth are involved in a variety of learning and fellowship activities. The Youth Group annually organizes a summer Mission trip through the Appalachian Service Project. In 2010, the Luther Memorial Youth Group will be going to rural Kentucky July 24-31, 2010.
Adults
Adult Forum
The Adult Forum is held in the Great Room from 9:15 to 10:15 most Sundays, September to June and provides opportunities to engage in biblical and theological discussions on a many topics as well as learn more about Luther Memorial's various ministries. Different speakers are scheduled throughout the year.
Theological Conferences
For the past four years, Luther Memorial has sponsored an annual theological conference. In 2010, we tele-hosted the Trinity Institute's conference "Building an Ethical Economy" and are planning on tele-hosting next year's Conference on January 20-21, 2011.
Women's Gathering
All women are invited to the monthly Women Gathering, usually on the second Wednesday of the month beginning at 7 p.m. Topics and speakers vary.
Men's Group
All men are invited to the monthly Men's group gatherings, usually held on the first Tuesday of the month beginning at 7 p.m. Topics and speakers vary.
